Introduction:

The Department of Botany was established in 1989, coinciding with the inception of the Faculty of Science at the college. Initially, only seven students were enrolled in the 'B' group, focusing on Biology (Botany & Zoology) at the F.Y.BSc. level. The following year, in 1990, the department expanded its offerings by introducing the S.Y.BSc. class, marking a significant step in the educational journey of the institution.

Aims & Objectives of the Department:

  • Dissemination of Current Knowledge: The primary goal is to provide students with up-to-date information on various discoveries in the field of Botany.
  • Skill Development for Self-Employment: The department aims to equip students with skills essential for self-employment in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, biofertilizers, tissue culture, etc.
  • Environmental Awareness: Fostering awareness among students regarding environmental issues, including pollution, depletion of natural resources, and the significance of forest conservation.
  • Inter-disciplinary Approach: Encouraging an inter-disciplinary approach, promoting a holistic understanding of different branches within the life sciences.
  • Plant Species Conservation: Developing skills in students for the collection, identification, nomenclature, classification, and preservation of plant species at risk of extinction.
  • Scientific Attitude Cultivation: The department seeks to instill a scientific attitude in students, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Interest in Fundamental Life Sciences: Promoting interest and curiosity among students in the fundamental branches of life sciences.
  • Research Promotion: Aiming to stimulate and support research activities in the field of biological sciences among both faculty and students.
  • Popularization of Plant Science: Working towards popularizing the science of plants, emphasizing its importance and relevance in contemporary society.
