ZOOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Introduction: The Zoology Department was established in 1989 with the inception of the Faculty of Science at our institution. At its inception, only seven students were enrolled in the 'B' group offering Biology (Botany & Zoology) at the F.Y.BSc. level. The following year, in 1990, the department expanded to include the S.Y.BSc. class, marking the commencement of an educational journey dedicated to imparting knowledge in the field of zoology.
Aims & Objectives: The department's mission is guided by a set of clear aims and objectives:
- Dissemination of Knowledge: To provide current knowledge and information about various discoveries in the field of zoology.
- Skill Development for Self-Employment: To equip students with skills for self-employment in areas such as agriculture, apiculture, and biofertilizers (vermicompost).
- Environmental Awareness: To cultivate awareness among students regarding environmental problems, including pollution, threats to natural resources, the importance of forest conservation, etc.
- Inter-disciplinary Approach: To foster an inter-disciplinary approach among students, encouraging an understanding of different branches of life sciences.
- Species Preservation: To develop skills in students related to the collection, identification, nomenclature, classification, and preservation of different animal species, especially those facing extinction.
- Scientific Attitude: To instill a scientific attitude among students, promoting critical thinking and inquiry.
- Interest in Life Sciences: To develop and nurture interest among students in the fundamental branches of life sciences.
- Promotion of Research: To encourage and promote research initiatives in biological sciences.
- Popularization of Animal Science: To contribute to the popularization of animal science, making it accessible and engaging for students.
The Zoology Department is not just an academic unit but a dynamic space that aims to inspire curiosity, foster practical skills, and instill a deep appreciation for the diverse and intricate world of zoology. Through its multifaceted objectives, the department seeks to empower students with knowledge and skills that extend beyond the classroom, preparing them for a meaningful contribution to the field of life sciences.
