The Department:

The Department of Psychology holds a significant position in the college, established in 1972. Mrs. Prof S.U. Bhoraskar served as the first head of the department from June 1972 to July 1999. Following her retirement, Prof Chowk assumed the role of Head of Department from December 1999 to April 2000. Subsequently, Maya Sonawane served as a Lecturer from August 2000 to March 2001, and since September 27, 2001, Prof. R.U. Jadhav has been contributing to the department in the capacity of a Lecturer.

Psychology is taught at the undergraduate level, providing students with an understanding of various aspects of human behavior and knowledge about mental processes. The department ensures access to standard books and journals in this field. Recognizing the importance of Psychology in civil services and competitive exams, the subject also offers diverse employment opportunities.

The Psychology department is well-equipped, featuring audio-video aids such as TV, VCR, O.H.P., and LCD at the central library. Remedial teaching is tailored to meet the specific demands of the students.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

  • Scientific Knowledge: Provide scientific knowledge about mental processes, including intelligence, motivation, emotion, perception, and learning.
  • Understanding Human Development: Develop a better understanding of heredity, growth, maturation, environmental influences, language, thinking processes, and socialization.
  • Interpersonal Skills and Coping Mechanisms: Foster the development of interpersonal relations, personality, and the ability to cope with stress in day-to-day situations.
  • Skill Enhancement: Assist students in improving various skills such as memorization, learning, and motivation.
  • Career Readiness: Enable students to prepare for a career in social welfare agencies within the field of mental health.
  • Positive Attitudes: Cultivate positive attitudes towards learning and problem-solving, building confidence among students.

The Department of Psychology is committed to providing comprehensive education that not only imparts theoretical knowledge but also equips students with practical skills and a positive mindset for their personal and professional development.
